Definitely worse ways to spend a rainy day than immersed in this gem of a novel—a fictional account of Shakespeare’s wife and their only son. One reviewer wrote, “Hamnet is a beautiful read, a devastating one, intricate and breathtakingly imaginative. It will stay with me for a long time.” I wholeheartedly concur.

Discovering Charles Martin was one of the unexpected delights of 2020. This is my favorite of his works so far. It’s the most meaningful re-telling of The Prodigal Son that I’ve ever heard. Beautiful prose. Gorgeous imagery. And truth. So much gospel truth. @storiedcareer
